Lucknow: Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh has taken cognisance of the serious waterlogging and flood-like situation in several parts of Faizullaganj following a sudden surge in the Gomti River.
Singh discussed the situation with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and requested approval for a permanent solution to the recurring problem by constructing an embankment along the left bank of the Gomti from IIM Road to Harding Bridge.

The Chief Minister subsequently conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected Faizullaganj area and announced the proposed embankment project from IIM Road to Harding Bridge as a long-term measure to address the flooding problem.
Singh expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for announcing the project.
The Defence Minister had earlier directed Lucknow MLA Neeraj Bora to pursue the matter with the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). Following the direction, the LDA Vice-Chairperson submitted a proposal to the Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Planning Department, Uttar Pradesh, seeking inclusion of the embankment project in the infrastructure development plan.

Singh also spoke to the District Magistrate over the phone and directed the administration to ensure adequate arrangements of boats in the affected areas. He called for sufficient distribution of foodgrains, drinking water and other essential items to residents facing difficulties due to the flooding.
He further directed the administration to establish adequate medical camps and temporary shelters for affected residents. Relief and rescue operations should be conducted on priority, with all possible assistance and essential facilities provided to people in need, he said.
The Defence Minister also stressed the need for continuous monitoring of the situation and directed officials to ensure that there was no negligence in relief and rescue operations.
The measures are aimed at providing immediate relief to residents of the affected areas while the proposed IIM Road-Harding Bridge embankment is expected to provide a long-term solution to recurring flood and waterlogging problems along this stretch of the Gomti.
